During Thursday's broadcast of WVNN's "The Dale Jackson Show," former U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks discussed a recent statement made by Secretary of State Wes Allen criticizing former ALGOP chairman John Wahl for attending a Ramadan dinner at the Anniston Islamic Center.

Both Allen and Wahl are currently facing off in the Alabama lieutenant gubernatorial election.

"It's driven by polling and the desire to win a political race," explained Brooks. "If you look at Tommy Tuberville's comments, they're very similar to those of Wes Allen concerning the threat that they both perceive is associated with Islam."

Brooks posited that Allen and Wahl are working to secure votes by any means necessary, pointing to Allen's statement attacking the former chairman for visiting the Islamic center as an example.

"If you're a politician and you're in the middle of a campaign, then typically, the politicians are going to want to go to places that maximize their votes in whatever upcoming election they're campaigning for," noted Brooks. "So, there'd be polling data that's involved in that. It seems that there's a calculus by Wes Allen that he might concede whatever Islamic vote there is to John Wahl in exchange for getting the fundamentalist Christian vote."

Ultimately, Brooks believes Allen is being guided by polling data showing that criticism of Islam is supported by a significant number of voters in Alabama.

"Wes Allen is not a dummy," he argued. "We can agree or disagree with what he's doing, but he must have polling data that says attacking Islam will help him with more voters than it will hurt him."

"It's probably the calculus that motivated him."
