The Alabama Association of Emergency Managers has awarded the Mobile County Emergency Management Agency (MCEMA) the Large County Preparedness Award.
The MCEMA is accredited through the Emergency Management Accreditation Program, meeting the highest standard. The county had to demonstrate how it plans, trains and coordinates in community preparedness.
EMA Director Mike Evans said the county proactively prepares before disasters strike.
"Preparedness doesn't happen during a disaster; it happens long before one," said Evans. "This award reflects the dedication of our team and the strong partnerships we have with local governments, first responders, nonprofits, volunteers and state and federal agencies. Our recent accreditation challenged us to evaluate every aspect of our organization against national standards, and we're proud that Mobile County EMA has now also been recognized by peers across Alabama."
Last year, Mobile County became the first Alabama county to earn accreditation.
