A Mobile County man has been found guilty of capital murder in the 2021 Christmas Eve death of his ex-wife’s boyfriend.
Prosecutors revealed Murice Sashington went into his ex-wife’s home when no one was there and waited for her to come home. He shot Quincy Kemp and killed him. Sashington’s ex-wife, Shanda Aver, was also shot and injured.
“This case is an example of a planned attack in which the perpetrator was lying in wait for the victims as they returned home on the evening of Christmas Eve, 2021,” said Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood. “They were ambushed and shot in a fit of rage and jealousy, leaving 40-year-old Quincy Kemp dead and Shanda Avery injured. What was supposed to be a joyous night ended up being a nightmare.”
Sashington fled the scene and was on the run for several months. He was eventually captured in Nevada.
The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office said Sashington would be sentenced to life in prison without parole for the capital murder charge on June 11. He was also found guilty of attempted murder, in which he faces 20-99 years.
