The Mobile County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about shots fired in Prichard on Wednesday, just one day after they took over 911 calls for the city.
No one was hurt in the shooting, but the caller reported someone fired shots from a vehicle on Eugene Avenue.
A deputy spotted the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop, leading to a chase. The suspect stopped the vehicle and fled on foot into a residence in the 400 block of Glendale Place. Deputies followed the suspect into the building, where a struggle ensued.
Tyler Eric Coleman, 28, of Prichard, was taken into custody and charged with certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, attempting to elude and trafficking synthetic marijuana. More charges are possible.
According to jail records, Coleman has a rap sheet dating back to 2016. His prior arrests include charges of theft, domestic violence, possession of a controlled substance, attempting to elude, tampering with physical evidence and gun charges.
At the time of his arrest, he was wanted out of Fairhope on a theft charge. A woman claimed that he stole her cell phone from her shopping cart at Publix. He also has holds for theft charges with the Spanish Fort and Daphne police departments.
The sheriff's office took over all 911 calls and investigations in Prichard on Tuesday following the arrest of a police officer.

Sheriff Paul Burch said his office is committed to public safety in Prichard.
"We are now handling all 911 calls in the City of Prichard," said Burch. "The citizens of Prichard can expect to see a heavy presence of Mobile County Sheriff's Office patrol deputies and know that we are there to protect and serve."
Coleman is considered innocent until proven guilty.
