The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department officially has a new chief. Barry Glisson was sworn in on Monday before city officials, employees and his family.

"Chief Glisson is a longtime Mobile Fire-Rescue Department employee, a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and a great man," said Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis. "Most importantly, he has already been doing an exceptional job leading MFRD, with a deep commitment to serving our community and supporting the men and women who serve alongside him."

Glisson has over 29 years of experience in fire, EMS, and emergency management. He is a second-generation Mobile firefighter and a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, and has served in multiple roles since joining Mobile Fire-Rescue in 2004.

Glisson is also an adjunct instructor with the Alabama Fire College.

Mobile Fire-Rescue has an ISO Class 1 rating. Cheriogotis said he has faith in Glisson to maintain that rating.

"With an incoming academy class, MFRD will soon be fully staffed for the first time in years. Chief Glisson is committed to ensuring this outstanding team is prepared to respond to any emergency, anywhere, at any time," Cheriogotis added.
