Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson, along with other leaders and citizens, walked and biked the full length of the newest section of the Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail.

Following a ribbon cutting at the Charles Wood Japanese Garden, the group strolled along three-quarters of a mile.

“If you were standing there right now, you wouldn’t believe you were in the middle of the city. It is stunning,” said Stimpson.

Along with the addition, improvements, including ADA accessibility upgrades and a restriped parking lot were made. Stimpson said the next step is security lighting and cameras.

City Councilwoman Gina Gregory headed up capital funding for the project. The Metropolitan Planning Organization and the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission also awarded grant money from the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT).

“We were also blessed to have an incredible project team on this latest phase of the trail,” Stimpson added. “Our programs and project management department worked closely with McCrory and Williams and McElhenney Construction on the design and build-out. The final project is something truly amazing, and I have no doubt it will be the highlight of the seven-mile trail network that follows Three Mile Creek through the heart of Mobile.”

Once completed, the greenway trail will stretch from Langan Park to Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
