Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said recent violent acts are not acceptable and his staff, along with law enforcement, is taking action.
A woman was shot and killed last Thursday at Sage Park, and on Easter weekend, a woman was the victim of a random robbery and shooting at Publix in Midtown.
The victim at Publix survived and was released from the hospital on Monday. The suspected shooter was apprehended.
"Like so many Mobilians, our staff and law enforcement leadership across the city has been disturbed and outraged by these violent actions," Stimpson said.
Stimpson said he has asked law enforcement at the local, state and federal levels to come together to address crime. He said new laws allow for increased penalties for offenders.
"The sort of violence we saw over the last week isn't acceptable, and we will use every resource and tool at our disposal to stop it," he added. "This type of senseless violence has no place in Mobile and neither do the lowlifes committing these kinds of crimes."
Stimpson said he understands why people would not feel safe in Mobile. He hopes that partnerships between the Mobile Police Department, the Mobile County Sheriff's Office, the Mobile County District Attorney's Office, the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Alabama and the FBI will make the community safer.
