Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson applauded Gov. Kay Ivey and the Alabama Legislature on Wednesday after the signing of a law banning Glock switches and similar trigger activators.
“These inexpensive and easily obtainable devices turn semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic weapons that are nearly impossible to control,” Stimpson said. “They have been cited as a major public safety hazard and have contributed to injuries and deaths in communities across Alabama, including Mobile.”

Stimpson said the Big 10 Mayors Association has championed an effort to ban the devices. While the devices are federally prohibited, officials on the state and local level can now hold offenders accountable.
“I want to applaud Gov. Ivey and the legislative leadership in the House and Senate for quickly passing this commonsense legislation,” Stimpson said. “Actions like these will help local law enforcement make communities across Alabama safer.”
Ivey signed the bill into law on Thursday, and it immediately went into effect.
The bill was part of Ivey’s public safety package to help empower law enforcement in Alabama.
