Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said the demolition of the old civic center is on schedule to be completed in February.

“The Theater has been completely demolished, and its footprint is currently being prepared for the new arena construction,” Stimpson posted on Facebook. “The process of demolishing the current Arena has begun.”

A new arena will be constructed in its place. The demolition portion is expected to cost over $4 million.

Construction on the new, state-of-the-art entertainment arena is set to begin in March. The new $300 million arena will hold over 10,000 people and have a lifespan of 50 years.
