The deadline to run for mayor has passed, so the lineup of candidates is final. The four contenders for the job are Spiro Cheriogotis, attorney and former Mobile County district judge, State Rep. Barbara Drummond (D-Mobile), Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson and former Mobile Police chief Paul Prine.

The mayor’s race is an open seat. Incumbent Mayor Sandy Stimpson declined to run for a fourth term.

The election is non-partisan. Candidates are not designated by party.

If one candidate receives a simple majority – 50% of votes cast plus one vote – that candidate is declared the winner. If no candidate receives a majority, there will be a runoff between the top two vote-getters on September 23.

Here are important dates in the election cycle:

  • August 11: Last day to register to vote
  • August 19: Last day to request an absentee application by mail
  • August 21: Last day to hand deliver an absentee application and last day to vote absentee in person
  • August 25: Last day to hand deliver an absentee ballot
  • August 26: Election Day
  • September 23: Run-off election (if necessary)

The July 15 forum will be broadcast live on Fox 10 WALA.
