While on the campaign for the Biden-Harris campaign in 2023, State Rep. Barbara Drummond (D-Mobile) made comments calling President Donald Trump and the "MAGA agenda" dangerous.
Drummond went on to call "extremist Republicans" liars.
Now, the week after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the political rhetoric is continuing from her campaign for Mobile mayor, despite our self-proclaimed political smart set telling us to bring down the temperature.
Drummond's campaign seemingly attempted to scare her own voter base by making her opponent, Spiro Cheriogotis, appear devilish alongside Trump. The flyer has in bold, highlighted letters, "MAGA Republican."
However, Drummond is playing up the political rhetoric, and for Republican households, Drummond's campaign took the opposite tone.
"Barbara Drummond works with leaders from all political parties to get things done for Mobile," the second mailer stated.
The mailer highlighted funding Drummond has supported, including for the city's airport, road improvements, the Africatown redevelopment, small businesses and neighborhood cleanup.
Cheriogotis has maintained he will continue to run the non-partisan race for everyone in Mobile. When asked about party affiliation, he told 1819 News there was no need for partisan politics in a city mayoral race.
Drummond's campaign has not responded to a media request from 1819 News.
