The City of Mobile named a new Mobile Fire and Rescue Department chief and a new public safety director Tuesday.
During a regular council meeting, Mayor Sandy Stimpson named Johnny Morris as the new fire chief. He honored outgoing chief Jeremy Lami by proclaiming October 31 as Chief Day and reading a summary of Lami's impressive career.
After 21 years of service with the City of Mobile, Lami was awarded the Award of Excellence medal from Stimpson.
Lami said he is looking forward to the future.
"This city has been very good to me and I will tell anybody that's looking for a career that this is a phenomenal one and one that I loved every moment of it," said Lami.
The outgoing chief noted he could not have been successful without a great team, which included Johnny Morris.
The City also named the new director of public safety, Robert Lasky.
