The Mobile Police Department is searching for the suspects in a shootout between two groups of people.
The shooting happened Tuesday afternoon at Langan Park.
No one was injured, but three vehicles, including one with innocent bystanders inside, were damaged by gunfire.
"Like you, I'm frustrated and disgusted that this would occur at a place where families should feel safe and at ease," said police chief William Jackson. "These individuals clearly have no regard for the many lives that were enjoying an afternoon at the park."
Jackson said investigators are working diligently to find those involved.
“I am deeply angered and saddened that there are people in this community who would open fire on one another in a public park," said Mayor Sandy Stimpson. "Our parks are meant to be safe spaces for all Mobilians to enjoy, and we work diligently to ensure they remain that way. While we are grateful that no one was hurt in this incident, this kind of lawlessness has no place in our community. To those who would threaten the safety of our public spaces, know that we will not tolerate it. I have full confidence that the Mobile Police Department will find those responsible and hold them accountable.”
Langan Park, off Zeigler Boulevard, sits on Spring Hill Lake and has a playground, disc golf and a walking trail.
