Legislation by State Rep. Mack Butler (R-Rainbow City) banning instruction and discussion related to gender identity or sexual orientation in public K-12 classrooms has seemingly stalled in the House after not gaining any traction last year, but Pathway Church lead pastor Travis Johnson is emphasizing the importance of getting the bill passed.

During an appearance on Mobile radio's FM Talk 106.5's "The Jeff Poor Show," Johnson commended the legislation and highlighted that taxpayer money was going toward funding "the affirmation of mental disorders on children."
“I think for a lot of us, we really saw what happened in 2020. It's just like we lost our minds on this issue, the gender ideology indoctrination," Johnson told host Jeff Poor. "You know, our schools are supposed to be education centers, not indoctrination centers. And the terrible thing — there's a couple of things. One, our money is used. We're funding it."
"And then two, it's leveraged against our kids," he continued. "So ... you think about it, you're talking about school. You teach people science. You teach people history. And this, you know, you can be born in the wrong body. That's nonsense. There's nothing scientific, there's nothing true about it. Actually, until just recently, the APA listed gender dysphoria as a mental disorder."
"So, we are tax funding the affirmation of mental disorders on children. And so that's a big deal," Johnson continued. "You know, I don't want to trade my sons or my, my daughters for a better sidewalk, for, you know, better standing in the eyes of people that pretty much, you know, are working to deconstruct a nuclear family. So it's very important."
The pastor went on to say that pushing back against the gender ideology indoctrination was something not only Alabama voted for, but all of America.
"I think this is something that all of Alabama wants," Johnson outlined. "Of course, America wants it too. We've already seen these executive orders. This is what we voted President Trump into office for. And so, this is really a great thing to see.”
