Over the Memorial Day weekend, the City of Montgomery hosted a sneaker ball for its Stop the Violence Campaign, featuring a guest performance by Mobile Rapper Yung Bleu, who has a criminal history of violence.

The event, which was slated for teens 14-18, claimed to be about "[O]ur teens coming together to celebrate life, uplift one another, and take a stand against violence in our community with our special guest Yung Bleu performing some of his latest hits. The event will also include exciting door prizes and awards for the best sneakers—so come ready to show off your style and your voice for change."

The event appears to have gone off without a hitch, with video of Mayor Steven Reed making a gleeful appearance.

However, some on social media were swift to criticize Bleu, whose real name is Jeremy Biddle, and his previous actions, which they claimed ran contrary to the event's purpose.

Court records show Biddle was convicted of harassment in Mobile in May 2021. According to court records, the conviction came after he was accused of throwing papers in a woman's face when she refused to sign them, and "struck her in the face several times with his hands."

The following year, Biddle was arrested in Los Angeles on felony charges of discharging a firearm after allegedly shooting at individuals who were attempting to rob him and people he was with.

Additionally, a highly publicized event occurred in 2023, when Biddle was arrested in Georgia for allegedly assaulting his mom over a custody disagreement. However, in a March interview, Biddle claims that his mother initially lied to the police, but he later accepted the charge so that his mother would not get in trouble for her initial lie.

"The prosecution, man, they want to get me," Biddle said. "At the end of the day, this a small city. I've caused them so much problems in that city, you know, with my parties and stuff. Like throwing my parties and stuff. Yeah. You feel me? They wanted to get me. Like, the prosecutor, she was out to get me. She wasn't going to let her go back on her story."
