Jackson Hospital is delaying a decision on whether to close, the hospital announced on Friday.

The hospital had previously said it could close as early as June 25 due to a dispute with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama over reimbursement rates.

A spokesperson for Jackson Hospital said in a statement on Friday on Facebook, “Late last night, Jackson Hospital received important new information that requires additional review. As a result, the Board has delayed today's decision on the future operations of the hospital to allow time for a thorough evaluation.”

“Jackson Hospital remains open and continues to provide care for our patients. We are grateful for the continued support of our employees, physicians, community leaders, and everyone working to find the best path forward for the patients and communities we serve. We will continue to share updates as information becomes available,” a Jackson Hospital spokesperson said.

Sophie Martin, a spokesperson for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, told 1819 News in a statement, “Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama wants Jackson Hospital to remain open and continue providing care to patients.”

“We continue to work with State and local officials and are in discussions with Jackson Hospital to find a solution that meets the needs of our customers and the River Region community,” Martin said.
