The Alabama Democratic Party has 97 candidates qualified to run in the 2022 election. Candidate qualifying began on Dec. 6, 2021.

Yolanda Rochelle Flowers and Chad "Chig" Martin have both qualified to run for Governor.

State Rep. Merika Coleman has qualified to run for State Senator in District 19. There are 35 members of the Alabama Senate. Eight of them are presently held by Democrats.

Lisa Ward has qualified to run for State Senator in District 21. Ward is challenging Republican incumbent Sen. Gerald Allen (Tuscaloosa).

Incumbent State Sen. Bobby Singleton has qualified to run again in SD24.

Incumbent State Sen. Kirk Hatcher has qualified to run for reelection in SD26.      

Incumbent State Sen. Billy Beasley has qualified to run again in SD28.        

There are 105 seats in the Alabama House of Representatives. While 27 of those are held by Democrats, some 77 are in Republican hands. One seat is presently vacant.

  • Incumbent State Rep. Laura Hall has qualified to run for State Representative in House District 019.

  • Incumbent Barbara Boyd has qualified to run for HD32.     

  • Incumbent John Rogers has qualified in HD52. 

  • Fred "Coach" Plump has qualified to run in HD55.     

  • Tereshia Huffman has qualified to run in HD56.

  • Kevin "K.D." Dunn and Danielle Lewis Matthews have both qualified to run for State Representative in HD57.

  • Incumbent State Rep. Mary Moore has qualified to run for reelection in HD59.       

  • Incumbent Juandalynn Givan has qualified to run for reelection in HD60.      

  • Nina Taylor is challenging Givan in HD60.

  • Larine Irby Pettway is running for State Representative in HD67.

  • Incumbent Artis (AJ) McCampbell has qualified for reelection in HD71. 

  • Phillip Ensler is running for State Representative in HD74. 

  • Incumbent State Rep. Patrice "Penni" McClammy is running for reelection in HD76.       

  • Incumbent State Rep. TaShina Morris has run for reelection in HD77.

  • Incumbent Kenyatté Hassell has qualified to run for reelection in HD78.

  • Former state Rep. Johnny Ford is running for State Rep. in HD82.

  • Terrence Kareem Johnson is also running in HD082.

  • Incumbent Berry Fort is running for reelection in HD84.

  • Richard Brackner is running for reelection in HD95.

  • Incumbent Adline Clarke is seeking reelection in HD91.

  • Incumbent Sam Jones is running for reelection in HD99.

  • Incumbent Barbara Drummond is running for another term in HD103.

  • Anne L. Durward has qualified for Circuit Court Judge 10th Judicial Circuit Place 1.

  • Javan Joielle Patton is seeking Circuit Court Judge 10th Judicial Circuit Place 4.

  • Brendette Brown Green is running for Circuit Court Judge 10th Judicial Circuit Place 11.

  • Glenda Freeman is seeking Circuit Court Judge 10th Judicial Circuit/Bessemer Division Place 12

  • Eric Hamilton has qualified for Circuit Court Judge 10th Judicial Circuit Place 14.

  • Paul Rand is running for Circuit Court Judge 10th Judicial Circuit Place 16.

  • Elisabeth French is running for Circuit Court Judge 10th Judicial Circuit Place 17.

  • David J. Hobdy is seeking Circuit Court Judge 10th Judicial Circuit Place 19.

  • Ben Larkin is running for Circuit Court Judge 10th Judicial Circuit Place 20.

  • Carla V. Morton   is seeking the office of Circuit Court Judge in the 10th Judicial Circuit Place 23.

  • Reginald L. Jeter is running for Circuit Court Judge 10th Judicial Circuit Place 25.

  • Michael Streety is running for Circuit Court Judge in the 10th Judicial Circuit Place 26.

  • Greg Griffin has qualified for Circuit Court Judge 15th Judicial Circuit Place 1.

  • Sebrina Martin is running for Circuit Court Judge 15th Judicial Circuit Place 3.

  • James H. Anderson has qualified for Circuit Court Judge 15th Judicial Circuit Place 5.

  • Zachary T. Collins, Sr. is running for Circuit Court Judge for the 26th Judicial Circuit Place 1.

  • Don McMillan is seeking Circuit Court Judge for the 4th Judicial Circuit Place 2.

  • Marvin Wayne Wiggins is running for Circuit Court Judge in the 4th Judicial Circuit Place 3.

    Danny Carr is running for reelection as District Attorney for the 10th Judicial Circuit.

  • Lynneice O. Washington is running for District Attorney of the 10th Judicial Circuit/Bessemer Division.    

  • Daryl D. Bailey has qualified for District Attorney in the 15th Judicial Circuit. 

  • Richard "Rick" Chancey is running for District Attorney in the 26th Judicial Circuit. 

  • Bob McMillan is seeking the office of District Attorney in the 35th Judicial Circuit.

    In the Alabama Court System, the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court is the head of the unified judicial system, who appoints the Administrative Director of the Courts. Alabama has 41 judicial circuits which are courts of general jurisdiction and are composed of one county or more.  District Courts are courts of limited jurisdiction. All 67 counties, no matter how small, have a district court.

    Democratic primary voters also get to elect the members of the Alabama Democratic Party’s State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC). The SDEC sets the rules and bylaws for the Alabama Democratic Party and elects the party leaders. This is not a paid position.

The deadline to qualify for running for office with the Democratic Party in Alabama is Jan. 28 at 5 p.m.

The Alabama Republican Party does not open candidate qualifying until Tuesday.

The major party primaries will be on May 24, 2022.
