State Sen. Tim Melson (R-Florence) is officially running for re-election to the state legislature in 2026.
In a Thursday press release, the lawmaker announced his candidacy for District 1, pledging to continue advocating for its residents.
"I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, but there’s more work to do, especially with President Trump’s recent announcement that Space Command is coming to North Alabama," said Melson.
First elected to the Senate in 2014, Melson says he is running once again because of his love for the state and his "belief in the people of North Alabama."
"North Alabama is growing, and I want to continue fighting for the people of Lauderdale and Limestone counties—to protect our conservative values, improve job opportunities, and ensure our families and communities have a voice in."
"It's been an honor to serve, and I look forward to earning the support of voters once again," Melson added.
During his time in the Senate, Melson led on issues such as expanding job training programs and promoting fiscally responsible policies. He has also supported economic growth and strengthened workforce development — especially in partnership with institutions like the University of North Alabama.
Melson is emphasizing that his campaign will focus on continuing the progress made in economic development, education, healthcare, and public safety — while ensuring that state government remains accountable to the people it serves.
Alabama Senate District 1 covers Lauderdale and Limestone counties.
