The 2021 fall of Afghanistan hit veterans hard: Our time there felt wasted, and we saw hundreds of billions misspent and the tragedy of American blood spilled for little strategic gain. The veteran suicide rate, already twice that of the general population, threatened to spike even worse, with organizations such as Stop Soldier Suicide seeing a 92% rise in ideation support requests in the year following Biden’s blunder.
Yet perhaps God had another mission for us in mind: to warn Americans about the horrors we witnessed firsthand.
For three decades, American troops fought radical Islam on its home turf – Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria. We witnessed Sharia in action: public beheadings for apostasy, flogging of rape victims, child marriages sanctified as religious duty, stoning of adulterers, amputation for theft, death sentences for blasphemy and homosexuality.
Many of our fellow Americans, particularly the most compassionate among us, believe such incidents to be rare aberrations. They foolishly think, as many of our nation’s top foreign policy leaders believed, that radical Islamic customs can be changed with the right application of Western money, education, and inclusion. But that’s a deadly hypothesis that will be the downfall of our civilization.
Such values are codified in classical Islamic jurisprudence. We’ve seen, firsthand, how they are enforced today in the Taliban’s Afghanistan, ISIS caliphates, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and northern Nigeria.
Europe ignored similar warnings and is paying the price. Under Pew Research’s 2017 high-migration scenario, by 2050 Sweden will be 30.6% Muslim, Austria 19.9%, Germany 19.7%, Belgium 18.2%, France 18%, and the UK 17.2%. Eastern Europe, which kept migration near zero, remains under 1%.
The correlation with public safety is stark. In Sweden, non-European migrant men – under 10% of the population – commit 84% of assault rapes. Algerian migrants are 122 times more likely and Afghans 69 times more likely to commit aggravated rape than native Swedes. Malmö, once among Europe’s safest cities, now has grenade attacks and no-go zones. France has seen teachers beheaded for showing cartoons, priests murdered at the altar, and a 300% surge in anti-Semitic incidents when comparing the first quarters of 2023 and 2024.
American troops who saw the same sort of carnage firsthand have a moral obligation to warn others that the ideology driving those atrocities is at odds with our constitutional order. As U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) recently stated on the Senate floor, “Radical Islam is fundamentally incompatible with our Western values.”

Despite the left’s tired refrain of “racism,” “xenophobia” and “ignorance,” Tuberville’s core point stands unchallenged: Sharia law is antithetical to the U.S. Constitution on every major freedom.
Free speech? Blasphemy is punishable by death. Equality under law? Non-Muslims are second-class; women inherit half shares and require male guardians. Women’s rights? Polygamy, child marriage, and honor violence are permissible. Homosexual activity? Execution in at least 10 Muslim-majority states. Religious liberty? Conversion from Islam triggers the death penalty in classical doctrine still taught in major Islamic seminaries.
After the pullout from Afghanistan, congressional offices were flooded with calls to evacuate our Afghan “allies” who served alongside troops as aids, translators, and service personnel. Well-meaning but foolish leaders brought approximately 180,000 Afghan nationals to the U.S. via humanitarian parole, Special Immigrant Visas, and refugee status.
Last week’s shooting of our National Guardsmen outside the White House, allegedly by an Afghan national, is the latest tragedy of this decision, but won’t be the last. Forty-eight percent of Afghan immigrants and 45% of Somali immigrants in the U.S. collect food stamp funds – far above native rates. Minneapolis Somalis were recently caught stealing $300 million from child-nutrition and other programs, funneling funds abroad. Such patterns repeat across welfare states: high dependency, low assimilation, parallel societies enforcing Sharia norms.
This is not about peaceful Muslims who accept our nation’s constitutional supremacy; it is about an immigration stream that disproportionately imports adherents – radical or not – of an ideology that rejects pluralism. Europe’s experience proves that once critical mass is reached, demands for Sharia accommodation begin: halal mandates in public schools, prayer calls over loudspeakers, blasphemy codes in law.
The United States must impose an immediate moratorium on immigration from Sharia-adherent countries, reinstate and expand Trump-era travel restrictions, end chain migration and lottery visas that skew toward high-risk regions, and deport all foreign nationals who advocate Sharia supremacy.
Tuberville’s No Sharia Act and Preserving a Sharia-Free America Act must pass. I believe we need a complete pause to allow time to rebuild an immigration system that prioritizes assimilation and national security.
America spent 20 years and trillions of dollars containing radical Islam abroad. Importing it now would render that sacrifice pointless.
The veterans who saw the enemy up close must deliver the warning.
