The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office charged a mother and her boyfriend in connection to the death of a child in August.
Kayla Mariah Nash, 20, of Leeds and Jakobi Collins-Rogers, 20, of Birmingham, are charged with felony murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse. The two are being held in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
Investigators first responded to Children’s of Alabama on August 8. The four-year-old victim was already deceased.
Court documents show that Zane Xavier Nash suffered fatal blunt-force trauma on or around August 2.
Nash and Collins-Rogers were officially charged on November 22.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is now asking anyone with information to come forward.
