The mother of missing teen Brittney Wood, who disappeared in 2012, has died, according to a Facebook post.

The Justice for Brittney Wood page posted Wednesday, “Brittney’s mom, Chessie, passed peacefully last night. We would like to extend condolences to Paul, Zoey, Hunter and the rest of Chessie’s family and friends. We are so incredibly sorry for your loss. We know what Chessie meant to all of you, and her presence will be missed. We know Chessie is at peace now and no longer in pain. We are sad to not have you here but thankful you are resting with your maker. We love you, Chessie!”

Chessie Wood was suffering from an aggressive form of breast cancer that had spread to her lungs and brain.

Brittney Wood was last seen on May 30, 2012, according to news reports. The 19-year-old left her mother’s home to visit her uncle, Donnie Holland, who was found two days later with a gunshot wound to the head.

It was believed that Holland committed suicide after being involved in a child sex ring with other members of his family. Mystery surrounded the disappearance of Wood, leading to speculation that she was a potential victim of the crimes.

Following a lengthy investigation, Chessie Wood pleaded guilty to misdemeanor reckless endangerment in 2016. Her daughter was never found.
