The Mount Vernon City Council voted to terminate its police chief following his December arrest for domestic violence.
Duncan Herrington was arrested on Dec.15, 2023, for third-degree domestic violence-harassment. According to reports, he was taken into custody after an incident at his home on First Avenue in Saraland.
The council voted to terminate his contract Wednesday.
Herrington is married with three children. He was previously employed as a police officer for the City of Saraland and was awarded Officer of the Year in 2002. He also worked as a police officer at Spring Hill College.
The charge against Herrington is a misdemeanor. Herrington is considered innocent until proven guilty.
