It's a Stephen King movie, but it's a more sentimental, softer story.

It was filmed in Mobile, Fairhope, Daphne, Bay Minette, Spanish Fort and Foley. Specific sites in those Alabama towns can be recognized in the movie.

"The Life of Chuck" is premiering now through June 19 at the Crescent Theater in downtown Mobile.

The film is based on a Stephen King novella adapted by writer-director Mike Flanagan ("Doctor Sleep"). It follows the life of a guy named Chuck who, at first, seems average, but this is a Stephen King story. In an unusual plot construction, the story unfolds in three chapters, presented in reverse order. The viewers don't wonder what happens to him. They wonder how he ever started out.

The movie won the audience award at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. It stars Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Mark Hamill, Mia Sara, Benjamin Pajak and Jacob Tremblay.

The first showing starts on Friday, the 13th, and runs through Thursday, June 19.

The Crescent Theater has been closed, renovated and is now reopening. It is a small, old-fashioned independent theater. There aren't many of those still around.

"I am wonderful, I deserve to be wonderful, and I contain multitudes."
