The Baldwin County Commission and the City of Gulf Shores will spend $11,100,000 on a major joint effort to improve the intersection of Alabama State Highway 59 and Baldwin County Road 6.

The two entities entered into an Intergovernmental Roadway Construction agreement as part of the "30 Cubed Program."

The 30 Cubed Program was established to encourage partnerships between Baldwin County and municipalities and to address traffic demands as the county sees unprecedented growth.

The Gulf Shores project is the first of the 30 Cubed Program.

"We're proud to work hand-in-hand with Baldwin County on improvements to the County Road 6 and State Route 59 intersection, a project that will benefit everyone who lives, works, or visits this area," said Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft. "When the 30 Cubed Program was announced, we already had these intersection improvements designed and ready to go — it was the perfect fit. I'm glad the County agreed this should be the first 30 Cubed project. This kind of collaboration is exactly what we need to keep both our community and the county moving forward together."

Gulf Shores and Baldwin County will split the costs evenly. Those costs include right-of-way acquisition, design, utility relocations, permitting, construction, engineering and inspection.
