Multiple people were recently arrested for attempting to smuggle in contraband to Holman Correctional Facility, including a security guard who is charged with having an ongoing sexual relationship with an inmate.
The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) announced on Tuesday that two people were arrested Saturday for allegedly bringing contraband into the Atmore facility.
During a routine search of visitor Kimberly Damas, a small bag containing approximately 22 grams of marijuana was discovered. She was transported to the Escambia County Jail and charged with possession of marijuana, promoting prison contraband and attempting to commit a controlled substance crime.
That same day, ADOC's Law Enforcement Services Divisions arrested Correctional Security Guard Sabrina Taylor during an investigation into the illegal introduction of contraband. ADOC did not state definitively if the two arrests were linked.
Taylor was arrested, transported to the Escambia County Jail and charged with ethics violation, prohibited activities, custodial sexual misconduct and promoting prison contraband.
The criminal complaint alleges that Taylor had an ongoing sexual relationship with an ADOC inmate. She was also accused of providing at least one inmate with cell phones, Bluetooth headphones, iPods, and an "unknown type powder."
The ADOC continues to combat illegal contraband being introduced to the state's correctional facilities, whether it is introduced from the inside or the outside," said ADOC Commissioner John Hamm. "There is no place for corrupt personnel at ADOC."
