Cindy Myrex has won the Republican nomination for House District 12.

A primary runoff was held Tuesday between her and opponent Clint Hollingsworth. Though the two were neck-and-neck in the primary election on July 15, Myrex won the runoff handily with nearly 59% of the vote.

Out of 5,208 ballots cast, Myrex received 3,048 to Hollingsworth's 2,160.

Alabama Republican Party chief of staff Shannon Whitt issued the following statement about the race:

“We are grateful to Clint Hollingsworth and Cindy Myrex for running strong campaigns in this important race. Public service requires commitment and sacrifice, and both candidates demonstrated their dedication to the people of House District 12. We look forward to supporting our Republican nominee in the Special General Election this October and keeping this seat in GOP hands.”

Cullman County Farmers Federation president Lee Haynes congratulated Myrex on her win, saying, “Cindy’s victory demonstrates how willing public servants can make a difference for their communities when they work hard and listen to their neighbors,” said Cullman County Farmers Federation President Lee Haynes. “We congratulate Cindy on her hard-fought win and look forward to supporting her in the general election as she seeks to represent the people of Cullman County in Montgomery.”

Myrex will face off against Democratic candidate Matt Glover in the general election on October 28.
