The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office revealed details about the investigation of a former funeral director in Foley.
Timothy Street was employed by Pine Rest Funeral Home and Memorial Park for years, until multiple families came forward, claiming they had paid for headstones they never received.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office received a complaint from the family member of a decedent who paid for a headstone that never arrived. The family member also filed a report with the Alabama Board of Funeral Services. The more investigators looked into the case, the more cases they discovered. Detectives said they also uncovered financial discrepancies.
“During the criminal investigation, numerous personal and business banking accounts were examined,” said Marlee Bailey with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. “Investigators discovered significant financial discrepancies, including evidence that Street had accepted cash payments and checks from victims without depositing the funds into Pine Rest Funeral Home’s business account. Investigators also confirmed that he failed to complete the headstone orders and other services he had promised to these families.”
Street was arrested and charged with first-degree financial exploitation of the elderly, but deputies expect more charges to come.
Detectives said the owners of Pine Rest Funeral Home were fully cooperative and acted immediately to notify families and address outstanding concerns.
Anyone who may be a victim can contact the sheriff’s office at 251-937-0202 opt.1 to file a report.
Street is considered innocent until proven guilty.
The Alabama Board of Funeral Services is conducting its own administrative investigation into the matter.
