New UFL co-owner Mike Repole contradicted a claim by Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin over the weekend that the Birmingham Stallions wouldn't be relocating to another city.
According to a recent report from Pro Football Newsroom, Birmingham is one of the four teams the UFL plans to relocate to different markets for the 2026 season, following a disappointing attendance turnout.
Repole said on Friday the UFL wouldn't relocate the Stallions to a different city if fans purchase 5,000 season tickets for next season. The tickets are refundable if the team relocates.
Woodfin guaranteed on Saturday that the team would be playing in Birmingham next year.
Repole responded over the weekend, saying the team had only sold 500 season ticket packages so far, well short of the 5,000 goal.
Repole said on X, "Now, about the rumor that the Stallions are 'definitely' staying in Birmingham??? Not true. Unless you personally just bought 4,500 tickets, in which case: THANK YOU, Mr. Mayor, you're my new MVP."
"Birmingham deserves to keep the Stallions — just like the Packers belong in Green Bay. But with average attendance at about 9,000, the math doesn't work. That's not me being negative, it's just not sustainable," Repole said.
