The Saban Center, a self-described “cutting-edge educational campus that integrates STEM and the arts,” has formed a “significant partnership” with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians (PCI).

The center announced the partnership with PCI on Thursday, saying the collaboration includes one of the Saban Center’s “largest donations to date.”

The center, which is still under construction across from the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, is a legacy project for former Alabama Crimson Tide football coach Nick Saban and his wife, Terry, following his departure from coaching football. The center will provide education on STEM and the arts.

“Nick and I are immensely grateful to the Poarch Creek Indians for the generous support of the Saban Center,” Terry Saban said. “This partnership is a true example of what’s possible when we come together in supporting education for our children.”

Stephanie A. Bryan, tribal chair of the Poarch Creek Indians, applauded the partnership and emphasized the importance of education in the lives of young people.

“We are proud to join with Terry and Nick Saban in providing STEM and arts education to children in Alabama through the Saban Center,” Bryan said. “This collaboration represents our shared commitment to making sure our state’s young people have the opportunity to reach their full potential and are well prepared to meet the demands of the future. It is truly a legacy project that the Sabans and our Tribe are committed to its success for generations to come.”

The center, which is slated to open in 2027, states on its website that it plans to offer “hands-on learning experiences for students and educators, the campus will foster curiosity, confidence and leadership skills for all who visit. Saban Center’s innovative campus will house the State of Alabama STEM Hub, the Tuscaloosa Children’s Theatre and IGNITE, formerly the Children’s Hands-On Museum. At the Saban Center, arts, education, discovery and innovation come together to prepare the workforce of the future.”

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox also celebrated the partnership between the PCI and the Saban Center.

“This new partnership with the Poarch Creek Indians will help us succeed in delivering a world-class experience to the next generation,” he said. "Together, we’re laying the foundation for a stronger, brighter future for our children.”
