Is Nick Saban going to get out of retirement to return to a familiar sideline?
According to major betting odds and lines site BetOnline, the legendary coach is the current leader to be named LSU's replacement for Brian Kelly, who was fired last month and is suing the university over his termination.
Saban coached at LSU from 2000 to 2004, compiling a 48-16 record and winning the 2003 BCS National Championship. He then left for the head coaching job with the Miami Dolphins of the NFL in 2005, eventually ending up in Tuscaloosa and leading the Alabama Crimson Tide to six national championships.
The retired coach turned ESPN "College GameDay" analyst is now listed as the current favorite to be named LSU's next coach with +200 odds, followed up closely by Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin at +375 and Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who coordinated LSU's offense during its 2019 national championship season, at +400.
Football analyst and podcaster Todd McShay has suggested LSU would make a run at Saban with a strong enough offer to reconsider retirement.
"He does hold a special place in his heart for LSU," McShay noted.
