Nick Saban may have retired from coaching football following the 2023 season, but anytime a big job opens up, his name is always at the top of the list.

With big head coaching opportunities from schools with big pockets, Saban seems very adamant about his decision to remain retired from coaching football.

During his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Saban and host Pat McAfee discussed the huge salaries that would be offered to potential candidates for the head coach openings at Penn State and Florida. Saban made it clear that he has no interest in throwing his name into the hat for those openings.

“You know, I want to stay retired,” Saban said. “I do not want [Jimmy Sexton] anywhere near Miss Terry. Because when she hears some of these numbers, she gets interested. And I’m not interested.”

A couple of weeks ago, on "College GameDay" in Tuscaloosa, the weekly Saturday football show on which Saban is a commentator during the football season, Miss Terry jokingly said some things that didn’t exactly rule out a Saban return if the price was right. McAfee asked if $50 million would be enough to get them out to Penn State and coach.

“Look, Pat, I have no doubt if Nick wanted to go back to coaching, he could win his eighth national championship,” Miss Terry said. “But we’re having too much fun, and we wouldn’t want to take that opportunity away from all of our baby coaches, like Kirby [Smart] and Lane [Kiffin]. I haven’t heard a number yet, Pat.”

McAfee later pressed Saban further, trying to stir the pot, saying Penn State fans are begging their athletic director to give Saban a blank check to coach their team. Saban stayed on course with his refusal to show any interest in returning to coaching.

“No way,” Saban said. “I have so much fun working with you. Why would I go do that?”

Saban seems content not coaching but still being involved in the game as a panelist on ESPN’s "College GameDay." Never say never, but it appears that Saban and his wife Miss Terry are having too much fun in his retirement from coaching for him to return.
