The No. 10 Alabama Crimson Tide softball team remains a perfect 16-0 after beating the UAB Blazers 15-0 Sunday afternoon to complete the five-game sweep of the Green & Gold Classic.
On Sunday, Abby Duchscherer led the offensive charge for the Crimson Tide, batting in five runs. Duchscherer started the offensive push for Alabama hitting a home run in the first inning. She finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and a single to go along with her first inning home run.
Alabama as a team slugged 13 hits in just 28 plate appearances, producing runs in every inning but the fourth. Marlie Giles went 2-for-2, hitting home runs in both the third and fifth inning after coming in as a pinch hitter in the third.
Jalen Torrence got the start in the circle for the Crimson Tide and earned her sixth win of the season striking out four batters and allowing just one hit in two innings of work. Alea Johnson and Alex Salter both made relief appearances allowing just two hits and striking out three batters combined over the final three innings.
Over the weekend Alabama picked up wins over Western Carolina, Bradley, North Alabama and two over UAB. The Crimson Tide completed the by slugging in 45 runs on 52 hits. The pitching staff was equally as impressive, surrendering just five runs over the five-game stretch.
