Number 17 Alabama baseball dropped a midweek matchup with Troy, 6-1, to split the season series with the Trojans.
The Crimson Tide pitching staff did a great job early to keep the Troy offense in check, but a late surge by the Trojans against the Alabama bullpen was too much to overcome.
Alabama jumped out to an early lead in the second inning with a Jason Torres home run to deep left field, but that would be the only offense the Crimson Tide would provide all game.
The Crimson Tide pitching staff cruised through the first six innings, holding the Troy offense scoreless. However, the difference in the game would happen in the seventh and eighth innings as the Trojans plated three runs in both of their final two frames.
JT Blackwood got the start on the mound for the Crimson Tide, pitching four innings of shutout ball while allowing just one hit before handing it over to the bullpen. Connor Lehman began the seventh inning and allowed two runs on one hit without recording an out and was handed the loss.
Eric Hines was the only Alabama player to record multiple hits on the night, finishing 2-for-4 with a couple of singles. Torres was the Crimson Tide’s only source of offense, ending his night 1-for-3 with a solo shot in the second inning to provide Alabama with its only run of the night.
The Crimson Tide drops to 32-17 on the season and remains 13-11 in the SEC.
Alabama will travel to South Carolina for a weekend series May 8-10, beginning Friday at 4:30 p.m.
