Alabama baseball displayed another disappointing performance in the College World Series, dropping to Texas 14-2 to end their season.
Monday’s energy from the Crimson Tide looked similar to Saturday’s game, in which they were shut out 9-0 by Oklahoma. Combined with a 14-2 loss today against Texas, Alabama was outscored 23-2, with the two runs the fewest for a College World Series team that was swept in two games since Kansas in 1993.
In the blink of an eye, Alabama was down 7-1 after the second inning, and all life was sucked from the Crimson Tide’s chances of extending their stay in Omaha.
Alabama’s Zane Adams took the mound for the Crimson Tide and suffered the worst outing of his career. Adams was yanked in the second inning after surrendering seven runs on seven hits and allowing three walks while only being able to record five outs on the afternoon.
Matthew Heiberger entered the game and cooled the Texas bats temporarily until the sixth inning. The Longhorns finally figured out Heiberger and tagged him for three runs. Hagan Banks came on to finish the sixth inning, but not before allowing a home run that capped off a four-run inning for Texas.
Myles Upchurch was the next Alabama pitcher to try to cool off the Texas bats, and, like the previous one, he was unsuccessful. Upchurch allowed three runs on two hits in his 1.1 innings of work.
The Crimson Tide had another tough day at the plate, but better than Saturday’s performance. Alabama scored two runs on six hits in its season finale. A Luke Vaughn single in the second drove in Alabama’s first run, and John Lemm hit a solo home run in the fourth to provide the team's second and final run of the game.
Vaughn finished the afternoon 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI, while Lemm finished 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
Finishing the year with a 42-21 record, Alabama achieved its most successful season since winning 43 games and reaching the NCAA Super Regionals in 2023. More impressively, the effort cements back-to-back 40-win seasons for Alabama, a feat the program hadn't accomplished in two decades, dating back to the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
