No. 9 seed Alabama baseball found itself in a pitching duel against No. 16 seed Missouri on Tuesday morning in the first game of the SEC Tournament. At the end of the day, the Crimson Tide were able to produce some timely hitting to advance with a 4-1 victory.
Neither team could put a run on the board early until Missouri broke through in the top of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. The Crimson Tide bounced back with two runs of their own in their half of the fourth on a couple of RBI singles from Justin Lebron and Kade Snell.
Alabama’s pitching continued to stay strong while the offense added some insurance, plating a run in both the seventh and the eighth innings.
Missouri threatened in the top of the ninth, loading the bases with just one out, but Carson Ozmer settled down and retired the final two batters to end the comeback attempt from the Tigers.
Brady Neal led the Crimson Tide offense, going 2-for-4, including a solo home run in the eighth inning to give Alabama some breathing room.
Tyler Fay picked up his first win of the season in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Fay allowed just one run on five hits while striking out six in a season-high six innings of work. Ozmer got out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to collect his 17th save of the year and secure the win for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama will face No. 8 seed Tennessee on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Hoover Met. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
