The ongoing fight to protect the integrity of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) from the infiltration of men seeking membership based on amended birth certificates that erroneously list them as women has revealed that Alabama law currently permits such changes.
State Rep. Susan DuBose (R-Hoover) intends to change that.
"No matter what body parts you chop off or alter, we don't get to decide our sex, chromosomes, or DNA because God already decided all of that for us," DuBose said.
The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) maintains vital records, including birth and death certificates.
State law (AL Code § 22-9A-19) currently allows birth certificates to be amended.
Law states as follows:
“Upon receipt of a certified copy of an order of a court of competent jurisdiction indicating that the sex of an individual born in this state has been changed by surgical procedure and that the name of the individual has been changed, the certificate of birth of the individual shall be amended as prescribed by rules to reflect the changes."
According to ADPH, the law has been used to change 95 records. Thirty-eight of those changes were males who had their birth certificates amended to reflect that they were female, and 57 were changed to reflect female-to-male.
"Our state's law allowing sex to be amended on birth certificates was passed during the time of 100% Democrat rule, but it is a new day in Alabama with commonsense Republican supermajorities in both chambers and a solidly Republican governor's office. The 'What Is A Woman Act' that I sponsored and helped pass defines 'man' and 'woman' as the sex at birth, and all of our laws across the line should conform to that statutory definition," Dubose told 1819 News in a written statement.
To date, seven Alabama chapters of the DAR have passed resolutions calling for a special meeting of the national organization to amend its bylaws to protect against the political and ideological attacks that the otherwise politically neutral organization is facing from leadership that secretly kowtowed to the LGBTQ+ movement and began letting men who identify as women join.
Two members of the Alabama congressional delegation, U.S. Reps. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) and Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) have signed onto House Resolution 9701 (H.R. 9701), the "Daughters of the American Revolution Membership Integrity Act," a bill that adds clarifying language to a section of the U.S. code that recognizes the DAR with a federal charter defining a woman and limiting membership to women.
