The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) is looking into an officer-involved shooting in Athens.

Officers reportedly responded to a call around 5:30 p.m. near Songbird Drive Wednesday to a person who shot a gun at a home. When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect refused to give up the gun and ran.

Officers attempted to use a Taser on the man after he fired his gun at them, but he continued to point the gun at officers, according to Police Chief Anthony Pressnell.

The man was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
