Officers Noah Boyd and Alec Burgess received a commendation during a Gadsden city council meeting on Tuesday for saving a woman who jumped into the Coosa River.
Boyd and Burgess responded to Memorial Bridge on April 16 to a report of a suicidal female. The woman jumped as soon as the officers arrived.
The officers immediately drove to Coosa Landing, where they found a citizen with a boat. Boyd and Burgess removed heavy-duty gear in case they had to jump in the water and, with the help of the citizen and his boat, were able to save the woman.
“Due to their dedication and willingness to preserve life, officers Alec Burgess and Noah Boyd did go above and beyond their duties, putting their lives at risk in a dangerous situation to save an individual who was unknown to them,” said Captain Bobby Jackson of the Gadsden Police Department.
