An Opelika teacher has been arrested and charged with having a sexual relationship with a student, which allegedly occurred eight years ago.
Earlier this month, Opelika Police detectives began investigating allegations of an inappropriate sexual relationship between Opelika City Schools teacher Jill Brisendine Campbell, 47, and a student. Police say the alleged incidents occurred approximately eight years ago.
The unnamed male victim reported that the acts occurred when he was in the seventh and eighth grades while attending Opelika Middle School. The police investigation reportedly revealed evidence that corroborated the victim's statement.
Court records indicate the victim was 12 at the time of the sexual contact, while Campbell was 37. The abuse allegedly took place over the course of two years from 2015 to 2017.
Campbell has been placed on administrative leave while the system aids police in their investigation. She faces one count of second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy. Records indicate she secured bond through a bonding company: $10,000 for the sodomy charge and $25,000 for the rape.
