The City of Opelika is warning citizens of an email scam after receiving numerous reports.
The emails appear to be coming from the Planning Department. The sender requests payment for a Planning Commission application.
The City posted a screenshot of one of the emails. It included specific lot information.
Officials stated that city emails will always come from an “@opelika-al.gov” account and will never request sensitive information.
Anyone who received a suspicious email is asked to contact the Planning Commission at 334-705-5156.
