Birmingham's new Coca-Cola Amphitheater will have its first show Sunday with comedian Matt Rife.

The 9,300-capacity amphitheater in Birmingham's Uptown entertainment area is an outdoor venue. It is the first open-air music venue to join the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center (BJCC) complex.

The location of the former Carraway Hospital campus has been vacant since 2008. The architect of the project, Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC), renovated two existing parking decks from the hospital to accommodate patrons.

Matt Rife's Stay Golden Tour will kick off a long list of events planned for the amphitheater. An estimated 20 events will be scheduled each year.

Already this month, Dave Matthews Band, Def Leppard with special guest Bret Michaels, Thomas Rhett and Jason Isbell are in the line-up.

GMC is also developing the new Mobile Arena, which is expected to be completed in 2027.
