A GoFundMe account for one of the five men injured in a fireworks incident on Lake Martin has raised over $15,000.

Matthew Davila, 28, was placed in ICU with burns and is expected to remain hospitalized for weeks.

“He will be in the hospital for weeks receiving much needed care before he can begin what will likely be a lengthy and difficult recovery process,” creators of the account stated. “We are raising funds to help cover his financial needs during this time so he can get the care he needs and focus on his recovery. We are truly thankful for any contributions to show love and support to Matt who so selflessly loves and supports others daily with no expectations.”

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said six people were injured during the July 4 celebration. Investigators reported an explosion on board a pontoon boat that had been modified into a fireworks platform. They said the people operating the pontoon did not have a permit for fireworks.

There is no word on the condition of the other five injured.

The incident occurred in the Blue Creek area.

ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division and the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating.
