The Scottsboro Police Department received multiple calls after trick-or-treaters were hospitalized after eating Halloween candy from a city event on Friday.

Police said reports included concerns over Haribo Gummy Bears that citizens believed may have been laced with THC.

Investigators were unable to confirm those reports.

“At this time, we cannot verify that any candy handed out on the square, or anywhere in the city, has been altered or contains any controlled substances,” police stated.

Police urged all parents to pay attention to their children’s candy and to inspect it before they eat it. Parents should throw away any suspicious candy.
