Mobile Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis gave the invocation at the Mobile Law Enforcement Foundation's annual luncheon.

The new mayor said officers' courage has always inspired him and that, as promised during his campaign, he will continue to support law enforcement and focus on public safety. He said the luncheon was an example of how the people of Mobile support police officers.

Cheriogotis shared a part of the prayer in his latest newsletter:

“Heavenly Father, your word instructs us to be strong and courageous — to be watchful and stand firm, and our officers do that every day. Your word says blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.

So, we ask you to bring peace, protection, and clarity of purpose into the lives of every officer in this city. Guide them as they rise to meet new challenges. Grant them wisdom and compassion in moments of uncertainty. Bring them calm in moments of stress, and confidence in moments of danger.

And help all of us — as neighbors, leaders, and citizens — to honor their service by striving for a safer, kinder, and more united Mobile.”

The Mobile Law Enforcement Foundation supports the men and women of the Mobile Police Department and their families.
