AUBURN – Maddie Penta tossed the third perfect game in program history to lead Auburn to its eighth win of the season.

The Auburn Tigers picked up an 8-0 victory over the Georgia State Panthers at Jane B. Moore Field on Wednesday night.

“Perfect games are special,” said Auburn head coach Mickey Dean. “Maddie (Penta) stayed ahead and put them away early in the count. A great game behind the plate from Aubrie (Lisenby) to go along with some great defensive efforts. We got some timely hits late to put it away.”

Penta faced 18 batters in the six-inning effort and stuck out 13 of them. Sixty of her 76 pitches were strikes.

Auburn's bats got going in the bottom of the second inning, and the Tigers went on to put at least one run across in each inning but the third.

The Tigers were led at the plate by Makayla Packer and Mariah Penta. Packer went 2-2 with one run and one stolen base. Mariah Penta went 2-3 with one run and one RBI.

Nelia Peralta led Auburn in RBI with two, both coming from a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Auburn is now 8-2-1 on the season.

The Tigers return to action this weekend to host the Jane B. Moore Memorial. They will take on Northwestern, USC Upstate and North Texas. They play at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. CT on Saturday and 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. CT on Sunday. The Friday game and both Sunday games will be live-streamed on SEC Network+, and the Auburn Sports Network broadcast for each game can be streamed anywhere on the Auburn Athletics app.
