Former Alabama State Rep. Perry Hooper, Jr. was arrested in Montgomery Tuesday on charges of first-degree sexual abuse.

The Montgomery Police Department has confirmed that Hooper was arrested in connection to an incident that occurred on August 16 at around 8 p.m in the 100 block of Commerce Street.

Hooper was taken into custody by the United States Marshal's Task Force.

Details of the alleged abuse have not been made public.

Calls and text messages to Hooper from 1819 News have gone unanswered.
