FOLEY — The city of Foley is getting national attention after an animal lovers' website ranked it on the list of "9 Small Towns that Belong in a Hallmark Christmas Movie."
While South Alabama is known for summer tourism with beautiful beaches and outdoor recreation, the beauty of small towns in Baldwin County lures tourists year-round.
A-Z Animals ranked Foley as number eight on the list this Christmas season.
Foley, a town of a little over 22,000, is quaint and picturesque any day, but the Christmas decorations give the downtown area a little more sparkle.
Residents like Jessica Brown have been coming out to experience the scenery and have turned visiting into a family tradition.
"I've been coming here since I was a little kid," Brown told 1819 News. "They kind of add to the little houses in the tiny village every year so it's fun to come out and see what they have added. My mom used to bring us here as a tradition and now I bring my kids. It never gets boring. It's so beautiful here."
A-Z Animals credited the city with annual Christmas celebrations and decorations in the park, vintage shops and the Graham Creek Christmas Trail.
Heritage Park and downtown Foley will remain decorated until after the new year, so people can still come visit after the holidays.
Other cities on the list are Dahlonega, Georgia; Vail, Colorado; Woodstock, Vermont; Frankenmuth, Michigan; Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; Prescott, Arizona; Leavenworth, Washington and Fredericksburg, Texas.
