A former Pickens County correctional officer is facing 16 counts of sexual abuse.
Marquita Booker, 28, was arrested by Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and is being held at Lamar County Jail. Her bond is set at $480,000.
According to ABC 33/40, Booker was hired four months ago. Last week, she was accused of having conduct with an inmate. An investigation led the office of District Attorney Andy Hamlin to seek warrants for her arrest Friday afternoon.
Hamlin told ABC 33/40 that his office will take further action if necessary.
Booker is no longer employed by the Sheriff’s Office.
Congress passed the Prison Rape Elimination Act in 2003, which federally criminalized any sexual relationship between prison officials and inmates due to inmates' inability to legally give consent.
