Recent polling from Coefficient, a political data and analytics firm, showed U.S. Rep Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) leading his opponent, former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson, in their upcoming runoff for U.S. Senate.
Moore and Hudson advanced to a runoff election last month after defeating Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall in the primary race.
The pair will now face one another on June 16 to decide the party's nominee for the seat soon to be vacated by U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), who won the GOP gubernatorial nomination in the primary.
The Coefficient poll tallied 600 likely Republican runoff election voters on a series of topics. Those polled were mostly white and over 65, mainly from the Birmingham, Huntsville and Mobile areas.
Moore ended up on top of the poll, with 46% indicating a preference for him, while Hudson came in at 37%, with 17% still undecided.
Moore led mostly with the support of President Donald Trump, who endorsed Moore in the race. Moore received 61% of Trump supporters' vote, with Hudson earning just 26% among the same group. Moore's approval soared with those 65 and over, while 73% of Hudson's support came in the 18-34 age bracket.
Though Moore had the majority of the favorable opinion, he also had a slight edge in the unfavorable category. Of those polled, 12% viewed Moore unfavorably, while only 9% viewed Hudson unfavorably.
