It's primary day in Cullman County as Republican voters pick their next representative for House District 12.

Four candidates are vying for the GOP ticket in the special election: Cindy Myrex, Clint Hollingsworth, Joseph McWhorter and Heather Doyle. Matthew Glover will be the Democratic nominee, running unopposed in the primary.

Myrex and Hollingsworth are the two front-runners in the race, based on their fundraising totals, which far outpace those of their opponents.

Hollingsworth has received the most so far, according to the Secretary of State’s website, which showed a total of $125,110 in monetary contributions, much of it from various political action committees, and an ending cash on hand balance of $18,388 after subtracting expenditures.

Mryex reported $73,763.65 for her campaign as of July 11, with an ending cash on hand balance of $26,682.09 after expenses.

If no candidate receives the majority of the votes, a runoff is scheduled for August 12, followed by the special general election on October 28.
